Sources said on Monday, US President Barack Obama's administration in the process of selecting a candidate from the high-level figures to succeed outgoing Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.
Obama is working on a list of former Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, who is seen widely as the front-runner after the exclusion of former Defense Michele Flournoy responsible unexpectedly last week.
Carter took over the post of deputy defense minister in the period from October 2011 to December 2013.
It is believed that Obama also looking other options, including the current Minister of Internal Security Minister J. Johnson and former Navy Richard Danzig, as well as Kurt Campbell, a former assistant secretary of state for East Asia and the Pacific and currently heads the Asia Consulting Group.
A source said that the declaration will be in the coming days, probably this week or next week.
